Meet Fall 2025 NeurodivURGENT Fellow: Evan Spann

Updated: Jun 19

Classification - Junior, Morehouse College

During the application process, Evan expressed that his interest in the program stemmed from intrigue with factors that influence human behavior that "date back as far as [he] can remember". Specifically, he noted, "In elementary school, I wondered why some students were generally quiet while others frequently called out and broke the silence." He also noted that during middle school his curiosity grew as he noticed the adult [paraprofessionals] that accompanied certain students throughout the school day. As a by-product of his budding interest, during high school, he sought more knowledge of the IEP process and the benefits and challenges that accompanied accommodations. Following his high school matriculation, he channeled that interest into action as a collegiate researcher and middle school mentor.

Evan is hopeful that the "training, knowledge, and mentorship offered by this fellowship will provide enhanced experiential learning opportunities and enable [him] to develop more effective practices to improve youth behavioral and emotional health."

Three things that Evan is most proud of about himself:

1. Curiosity

2. Connectivity

3. Upbringing
