Classification - Junior, Georgetown University
During the application process, Ese expressed that her interest in the program stemmed from her desire to improve access to quality healthcare, especially as it pertains to mental health. She also noted that she was "incredibly passionate about ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, has access to the resources that they need to reach their full potential." Through her studies at Georgetown University as a Neurobiology major and Public Health minor, she has learned a great deal thus far about "how science and advocacy intersect" and looks forward to continuing to develop her expertise so that it may be applied to "create real change" within her own community and beyond.
Ese is looking forward to maximizing this "opportunity to deepen [her] understanding of the institutional barriers that prevent millions from accessing care" and is "excited to learn, connect with like-minded advocates, and be an active agent of change for neurodivergent youth everywhere." When asked what she would do to improve the plights of under-resourced, neurodivergent youth if resources were readily accessible, she stated that she would "create mental health and recreational centers". Specifically, she noted that "these centers would offer free therapy, sensory rooms, tutoring, and learning specialists -- creating a safe space where young people can receive both academic and emotional support."
Three things that Ese is most proud of about herself:
outgoing nature and ability to meet people where they're at
resilience in the face of challenges
empathy
