Classification - Sophomore, Southeastern Louisiana University
During the application process, Brooklyn expressed that her interest in the fellowship stemmed from her desire to fully immerse herself into the healthcare field and equip herself "to understand and care for people on a mental and emotional level". She also added that she believes this program will empower her to become more relatable and "accommodate [the] specific needs" of neurodivergent individuals who are close to her personally and also make a meaningful difference as a healthcare professional.
Brooklyn is passionate about "providing access to appropriate, quality education for neurodivergent youth in public schools" including, but not limited to, how to function in mainstream society where their needs may differ from the social norms. She believes that public schools should implement comprehensive special education programs that include "curricul[a], safe spaces, social and emotional supports, and learning strategies that aid and benefit a variety of unique needs."
Three things that Brooklyn is most proud of about herself:
1. Ability to empathize and connect with others
2. Complete what she starts
3. Ability to always show up for herself and others even during moments of fear
