1. Tell us a little about yourself and what fuels your passion for serving the interests of neurodivergent youth and families.

My name is Stormy Askew, I am currently working on my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have a Bachelors of Science in Rehabilitation Services and I am aspiring to get my Doctorate Degree in Clinical Neuropsychology. My goal is to make mental health services accessible to everyone. But more importantly I want to research neurodivergency in women and women of color to better understand our brains and neuropathways that create neurodiversity. To facilitate change in women’s mental health and have better access to the differences of women’s minds. I also want to be able to create a difference in the education system to further elaborate on accommodations needed for neurodivergent youth, and provide education for families who have neurodivergent youth and possibly have neurodivergency themselves without an official diagnosis.
2. What are three things that you hope to gain from your experience as a graduate assistant this semester?
I hope to gain more leadership experience. I also hope to help navigate future generations to understand neurodiversity. Lastly, I want to create lasting connections to further my professional career.
3. What are some of your biggest takeaways from attending the recent NeurodivURGENT Conference in New Orleans?
The biggest take away for me was understanding the overlap of how much neurodiversity affects all aspects of life and how we don’t have the accommodations for it for most situations.
4. What three character traits are you most proud of in yourself?
Empathy
Information processing skills
Passion for the work I do
