NeurodivURGENT Chats: - Cleann "Cle" Davis, Founder of Neurospicy Black Women

Updated: Aug 30, 2025

Tell us a little about your background and what led to your passion for advocacy on behalf of neurodivergent individuals.

I feel as though I’ve lived many lives already. I’m the youngest of five, the only child on my dad’s side, and the first in my family to graduate from college. I then went on to earn my master’s degree in Organizational Management. On paper, it looks like I had it all together: traveling the world as a flight attendant, building businesses, always busy. But, behind the scenes, I had no idea that ADHD was the thread running through everything: the forgetfulness, the hyperfocus, the burnout, even the creativity. I didn’t get diagnosed until my late twenties, so for decades I carried around this silent shame that I was lazy, inconsistent, careless, or just couldn’t get it right. This is why I advocate for us. I know how isolating it feels to be misunderstood by your own family, your jobs, your relationships, and even yourself. I also know the freedom that comes when you realize: Oh, there’s a word for this… a diagnosis… answers… and I’m NOT alone. My brain works differently. I want black women especially, to have that language, that validation, and that community sooner than I did.

What inspired you to create Neurospicy Black Women? Tell us more about it and how you believe that the experience of building and growing your organization has shaped you as an individual?

A huge inspiration for me was creating a KIND space for neurodivergent black women. A SAFE space away from unnecessary cruelty and judgment. A place where we could take off the mask, laugh, be vulnerable, and also walk away with real resources that meet our lives where they are. So many of us are used to being misunderstood or overlooked, and I wanted this to be the opposite.  A space where you immediately feel like, “Okay, I belong here.”Honestly, the proof is in the way women respond during our Zoom Hangouts… My heart always bursts when I see that real impact is happening.

Quotes from 8/25 Hangout on PMDD, Perimenopause, Menopause, and All the Changes

"This was really great. My first time in this space but I’m so grateful.”

“I struggle to be vulnerable, but I know one day I’ll be okay sharing here.”

“This was a blessing tonight.”

“Take care everyone, it was a pleasure spending time with you all. Great conversation.”

“You all are such a beautiful and refreshing group of ladies. Your willingness to hold space is healing.”

“Thanks for all the information. Have a great night, everyone.”

Even moments of humor and softness show the impact, like someone joking before their edible kicked in, that they just had to say how much the space meant to them. The way members affirm each other directly, calling one “the mother I wish I had” or “the [health care] provider I’ve been waiting to meet.” Those words show that this space is fulfilling its purpose.

Building NBW has stretched me as a leader, inspired me as a woman, and healed me as a human. It’s shown me that when you build with kindness and intention, people will meet you there. I am thrilled to see what’s to come.

What encouragement would you give to your younger self around navigating your uniqueness with confidence?

I would sit my younger self down, look her right in the eyes, and tell her: nothing is wrong with you. You are wired differently, and that difference is a gift. The same brain that forgets what she was saying mid-sentence is the same brain that dreams up magical ideas, that makes people feel seen, that connects dots no one else even notices. The creative problem solver…I’d tell her to STOP over-explaining and begging for people to understand her, STOP shrinking to fit in, and instead find the ones who already do. To rest without guilt. To be silly and ‘weird’ without apology. And to know that one day, she’ll create an empire for girls and women just like her. The world isn’t always going to understand you, but that doesn’t mean you have to dim your light. Shine anyway.

How might someone connect with your organization to learn more?

We’re really easy to find online. Right now, we have multiple entry points depending on how they'd like to connect.

We host three virtual hangouts every month on different topics, keep a 24/7 body doubling space open for accountability, and organize in-person meetups across different cities.

Our signature annual trip, Glamping With The Gurlz, where we bring the online sisterhood outside for a weekend of connection. Booking available at callhercle.com
