About Mrs. Simmons
Educator | Advocate | Survivor | Proud Mother

With 19 years of unwavering dedication to education, I am a passionate and purpose-driven teacher who believes in the transformative power of learning. A proud math major from Xavier University, I bring not only a deep love for mathematics into the classroom, but also a deep commitment to helping students thrive—academically, emotionally, and socially.

My journey as a mother has shaped my advocacy. My daughter was born at just 241⁄2 weeks, weighing only one pound and three ounces, and diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity. Despite the odds of being blind, she has grown into a remarkable, unstoppable young woman. Now a college-bound honor student with a scholarship to the University of New Orleans, a member of Alpha Theta, and a former participant in the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, she is a strong advocate for individuals with disabilities. I take pride in raising her to believe that nothing is beyond her reach—and in ensuring she’s always treated equally and respectfully.

As an eight-year breast cancer survivor, I am committed to educating others about breast health, early detection, and survival. My strength as a mother, teacher, and survivor fuels everything I do.

My passion and commitment have been recognized with the honor of being named Teacher of the Year for both the 2022–2023 school year—a testament to the heart, excellence, and leadership I bring into every classroom.

I am a hard-working mother, Teacher of the Year, a resilient survivor, and a lifelong advocate. My mission remains clear: to uplift, educate, and empower others—one child, one lesson, one life at a time.
