Speaker Profile

Ms. La'Kandice Johnson is a New Orleans native and a proud alumna of Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor's in Biology-Premed. Following graduation, Ms. Johnson pursued post-baccalaureate and graduate studies at Drexel University College of Medicine before transitioning into the field of education. For the past 14 years, La'Kandice has served as an elementary educator, 13 of which have been in the 2nd grade classroom. Her favorite aspects of being an elementary school teacher are the opportunities that it creates to build meaningful relationships with students, to create a classroom culture that fosters peer support and friendship, to instill the confidence and freedom necessary for her students to make mistakes as they learn, and most importantly to empower them to discover and embrace their most authentic selves.
