NeurodivURGENT Fellowship Program

Stormy Askew

Graduate Assistant - Fall 2025

The Chicago School of Psychology

At NeurodivURGENT, we believe that supportive environments are essential to accomplishing goals in a healthy manner, no matter the field. Here's what Stormy had to say about her graduate assistantship experience thus far.

"Being a graduate student is already tough, with school, expectations, assignments, capstones and trying to maintain a balance between school, work, and family. However, finding The NeurodivURGENT Project through my mentor Dr. UpChurch created a plethora of professional connections, and a pathway to what I will do when I graduate. Working as a graduate assistant with Ms. Nichelle Cook has been a pleasure. Not only as a mentor, but a colleague as well. Being able to see the ins, and outs of how an up-and-coming project comes to life has been a blessing of a lifetime. Being a graduate assistant for this project has taught me how to talk to professionals, mentor undergraduate students, leadership opportunities, and a role to grow as a professional. Being offered this opportunity to make an impact in lives through assisting undergraduate students with their capstone, to connecting with mentors and discuss their projects, to solidifying my own project that I wish to complete after I graduate to further the cause of NeurodivURGENT. The cause of NeurodivURGENT is to create equal opportunities for neurodivergent youth and young adults in all aspects of society.

To create an interconnected ecosystem between law/policy, education, healthcare, and social services. This project is just one step of educating others about what we should do for the future of neurodiverse youth and I am grateful to be a part of this project."
