Mrs. Phyllis Vernon

About Mrs. Vernon

Mrs. Phyllis Vernon's journey as an educator has spanned from substitute teacher to paraprofessional to teacher. She has been an educator at Kentwood High Magnet School since 1997 and currently holds certifications in the areas of Special Education, Principalship, Parish/City Supervisor, Supervising of Student Teachers, and Mentor Teacher.

Her love for children is her motivation! As such, she often says, "it's not about me—but about what’s best for our children. Each child is a precious jewel, and given the right opportunity and support, can shine like the brightest diamond."

Mrs. Vernon is blessed to have been married for 46½ years, with 2 children, 9 grandchildren, and 1 brother. Her life's journey and the honor of receiving this award are testaments of the blessings that follow living by her favorite verse of scripture.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
