About Pastor Sutton
Lionel is the third child born to Billie M. Holmes via the seed of James Weldon Matthews. He was born on June 24, 1961 at Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital in Independence, LA. Lionel’s siblings are Evang. Sharon Ann and Tracey Lynn Sutton of Dallas, Texas, Rev. Ronald Anthony Sutton of Baton Rouge, LA, Deacon Austin Sutton of Amite, LA, James and Jerome Matthews of New Orleans, LA. and Min. Jeffery Matthews of Knoxville TN.
Lionel was raised in the small town of Amite in the parish of Tangipahoa. He attended West Side High School for blacks for 3 years. before integration of the public school system in 1971, attended Amite Elementary and graduated from Amite High School in 1979 with honors in the top 15 of the graduating class of 138. Lionel has the following distinctions: The first African American after integration from Amite High School to be named the 1st team All-State nose guard, All District offensive and defensive lineman, defensive MVP at Amite High School, Key Club officer, Who’s Who of American Students and Band member (trumpet and baritone). He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) in Lafayette, LA. (currently known as University of Louisiana and Lafayette (ULL) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice-Juvenile Counseling and an Associate Degree in Sociology in 1982. He walked-on the USL Football team and was the only walk-on to make it out of 101 walk-ons. He played collegiate football for 3 years and was injured and became a Grad Assistant Coach for 1yr., S-Club member, USL Gospel Choir and BSU Member. Past LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) football official for 24 years, one of the founders and organizers of the RAC recreational league, commissioner and coach for 19 years, CECP football coach at Amite High School for 9 years and currently team Chaplin. Presently assistant football coach at Westside Jr High in Amite. Also, continued Education (OYD) Office of Youth Development.
Lionel married Rena M. Foster on September 17, 1988 (36 yrs) and have 3 children, Lionel Jr. (LJ), Jared Ladrew and Jalena Michelle Sutton, 2 granddaughters Anilyee and Adele Billie. Lionel accepted the call to the ministry in 1989. He was licensed at the Little Bethel Baptist Church under the late Rev., Dr. Willard Vernon. He later united with his long time friends, brother and sister in the ministry, the late Supt. Adam & Glyniss Gordon where they found the All Nations Ministry COGIC and New Life Discipleship program in Amite, LA. He was ordained as an Elder in August of 1993 in Pineville, LA. under the leadership of late Bishop James Earl Gordon, Prelate Eastern Louisiana Jurisdiction #1 and former State Assistant Jurisdictional Adjutant. Former Co-Pastor of All Nations Ministries for 22 years and current Pastor of Full Assurance COGIC for 13 years in Amite, LA., 34 years Home and Foreign Missions Dept. (World Missions) worker with Mother Geraldine Hall and now State President of World Missions Dept. Louisiana East First Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop Alphonso Denson, Sr., appointed Regional Director region “L” (Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas & Tennessee), 2020 Established Hands to Heart Disaster Relief Hub in Baton Rouge Louisiana, Louisiana East First Jurisdiction, State Teacher for the Missions class in the W.K. Gordon Institute, State Prayer Warrior and District Chairman Harmony Saints Aflame District, founder and organizer of “SAY” (Save A Youth), partnering with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs department encouraging and motivating youth.
Owner and founder of L&R Catering “Fresh As Can Be” for 39 years, co-owner & founder of Alma’s Restaurant of Amite 9 years, former Head Chef and Manager of Café Bocage in Baton Rouge, La. and Who’s Who Entrepreneur. Accomplishments: one of the chefs that prepared food for former President of the United States Bill Clinton and prepared food for the World Board of Bishops C.O.G.I.C., Memphis TN. Employed 31 years with the Tangipahoa Parish School System (Louisiana Workforce Commission) as a Skills Development Team Member/Client Service Manager IV. Organizer of “SAY” Save A Youth for 3 years. A lover of the outdoors, Sutton enjoys spending his free time fishing and hunting.
